Last night I watched the movie ‘Joy’. If you haven’t seen it, you must! It’s a fascinating biopic about the inventor who created the Magi-mop- and follows her journey from broke single mum to entrepreneurial success as she took her invention to market.
The movie is powerful for so many reasons, but what I LOVED was how the heroine had to put everything on the line and commit with heart and soul to her business success, no matter how bleak and far away it looked at moments she didn’t let it slip through her hands.
At one point a man who knew nothing about her product and had NO PASSION for it was on shopping TV trying to communicate it’s value to the viewers.
He had NO FAITH in the product and did not have a first hand experience of using it.
When she got up and sold it the orders started luring in like a torrential thunderstorm in Bali. Because SHE BELIEVED.
This got me thinking, see- when I first took a leap and got mentoring I was terrified. I wasn’t really making any money and was vague and unsure of myself. I had a dream but I did not have a clue how to offer what I did, let alone promote it.
But I found that when I allowed myself to get support that I really craved and needed to get the best out of myself I flourished and thrived.
I was done with trying to get everything for FREE- and realised I could actually be successful when there was someone ahead of me guiding me through the pitfalls and seeing me, holding a space for my success. Once I made this distinction I got amazing results and I now invest in a guide whenever I am going for a result I want in my life.
I have hired a 1-1 support/mentor/coach/midwife for my business, health, births, body, style, home interiors…the list goes on.
When I had first hand experience of working with an intuitive, soulful mentor who had a head for business I could see the results, and BELIEVE in myself, so naturally I attracted many clients who could feel my congruency with what I was offering.
Don’t be like the guy selling Joy’s mops.
If you don’t believe in it, it won’t sell.
In the case of transformational coaches- if you don’t believe in YOU and don’t invest in your own support and value YOURSELF why would you expect anyone else to value you highly? You gotta get behind yourself and bet on your own horse.
Here’s some tips to shift this and begin to truly value the services you have to offer ;-
1- Make sure you are coming from your heart. If you don’t FEEL it, don’t have LOVE for it, don’t do it. Find something you’re truly PASSIONATE about. For example I led several retreats in Ecuador because I fell in love with that country.
I bring people, foods, places and experiences in my heart and the latest thing that nourishes and excites me in to my programs, so that others can fall in love and share the magic with me.
This makes my offerings genuine and fresh. in the last couple of years Babington House has been my sanctuary and I’ve loved sharing that incredible luxury experience with the gorgeous women in the Venus Venture.
2- Be Unique: Remember This- Be true to you and don’t try to be like anyone else. There is only one you and we need your individual, beautiful, weird, wonderful, magical light shining in this World.
3- Stop being afraid to invest in yourself. I see it all the time, people will baulk at a 4 or 5 figure price tag but think nothing of spending that kind of money on a holiday, furniture, or a university course. Assess your values and maybe see if its time you put your money where your mouth is and bet on your own horse. When I finally did this it changed my life! See your self as someone who CAN afford to invest in themselves and know that money is a renewable resource but your time is not renewable! Quit waiting for permission to go for it ….and start creating on your terms.
Mentoring = shortcut. Be confident and go boldly in the direction of your dreams. Until you commit and BELIEVE very little will change…
When I made this shift it was miraculous how quickly everything fell into place.
It is as William Murray said:
“Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.
